QT Marshall has shared some of the sage words of wisdom given to him by John Cena, ahead of the WWE icon’s in-ring retirement next year.

On a recent edition of Konnan’s “Keepin’ It 100” podcast, Marshall recalled speaking with the 16-time WWE World Champion at the Nightmare Factory wrestling school. He said,

“John Cena was at the school because of Cody, and he was talking to the kids. We went into the office, and he was discussing some things with Cody. He asked me, ‘I know you work for the other company, but is there anything I can answer for you?’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’m a VP, but of course, I want to wrestle.’

“He told me, ‘Just ask your boss what he wants. If you give him what he wants, there’s nothing to worry about. You’re doing what he asked you to do. If there’s something you feel strongly about, that you don’t want to do, or if you have another idea, then do it. Just know that you’re on the hook. If it doesn’t work, you’re on the hook.’

“It really makes sense. I know when I want something from my wife, I have to give her what she wants first. Life isn’t that hard.”

Cena will retire from in-ring competition in 2025, ending a 23-year career as part of WWE’s main roster that began with him facing Kurt Angle in 2022.

The WWE icon has said his retirement tour will last for 36 dates and will kick off with the first edition of RAW on Netflix in January 2025.

Marshall resigned from AEW in late 2023 and at the time, it was reported that his desire to compete as a bigger name was a factor in his decision.

Marshall returned to AEW in February 2024 and has resumed his previous role of Vice President of Show and Creative Coordination. He also competes outside the company.
