In a recent appearance on the “Drinks With Johnny” podcast, AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland spoke about his entrance theme, the creative freedom in AEW, and more.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On his “Big Pressure” entrance theme song: “The craziest thing about AEW is that they never touched it. They were like ‘Nope, this is Swerve’s. He made this, he brought this to us. We’re just putting it out there.’”
On the song he had for Hit Row: “At least it’s mine; the Hit Row song was not. We got a payoff, and then they changed the beat when we got to ‘Smackdown’ … at least with AEW they were like ‘Nope, this is yours.’”
On wrestlers having creative freedom in AEW: “I’d rather you let me fend for myself and create my own way than wait my turn for eight, 10 years that may never come until they pluck you like a toy into a machine.”
Swerve Strickland also appeared on the “Busted Open Radio” podcast to declare that he is always willing to do media rounds to promote AEW.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On doing media for AEW: “I’ve always been the first one to raise my hand for media … I was always looking to get myself out there more, what ways I can talk to people and promote, be one of the faces of the company. I said this is an art form for me, even promoting is an art form for me … promoting, going to speak with people, open up why this means so much to me, why I choose to be here, why this is important for me, and why this should be important to you.”
On enjoying talking to media and fans about wrestling: “I can express to them in my way, why this is important, what I see my perspective, and may change their perspective and make them see it in a different way too, just open up their mind or just give them a different type of way of looking at things. So that’s the fun part for me, just influence, like, we have influencers, I want to influence.”
