During a recent appearance on “Vlad TV,” former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland revealed the origin of his ring name.
You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:
On starting as Isaiah “Swerve” Scott: “I came up with Isaiah ‘Swerve’ Scott because I’m a big Isaiah Rashad fan and Travis Scott, which is funny enough [because of what] Travis Scott’s doing what he’s doing now. So [I chose] Isaiah Scott, but they allowed me to lease the name ‘Swerve’ to them, so if I’m ever released or anything like that, I get ‘Swerve’ back and I could still continue making my money on that.”
On the Swerve portion of his nickname: “It was just a cool ad lib for the song. I was just like ‘Yo what if it was like Shane ‘Swerve’ Strickland?’ That feels cool, like a boxer nickname in the middle, so I just ran with [Shane] ‘Swerve’ Strickland for like 10 [to] 15 years.”
During a recent appearance on “The Nikki & Brie Show,” Bryan Danielson revealed that his son, Buddy, enjoys watching wrestling with him and his favorite wrestler is “The Bounty Hunter” Bryan Keith.
Danielson said, “So, sometimes it’s so much fun, and then other times it’s really hard because he jumps on my neck. No matter how many times we tell him, ‘Hey, Daddy’s got a bad neck, please don’t jump on my neck.’ He just jumps on my neck, but it really brings me joy to see what he’s drawn to just in life, right? Not just in wrestling. But because we’re talking about wrestling, his favorite wrestler in AEW is Bryan Keith, the ‘Bad Apple.’ When the ‘Bad Apple’ comes on screen, he’s like, ‘Ooh, daddy, the ‘Bad Apple!’ It’s actually one of my one of my favorite things right now is watching wrestling with Bud, and him saying to me, ‘Daddy, who’s gonna win?’ Then I tell him who I think is gonna win, or whatever it is. Then to see his reactions to certain people, and like, how much he loves different things. He loves it when the ‘Bad Apple’ comes on. Oh, does Buddy get excited!”
