During a recent appearance on the “One True Sport” podcast, Lance Archer recalled the backstage reaction in AEW when the late Bray Wyatt was released from WWE back in 2021.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On reconnecting with Wyatt before he passed: “I saw him, and I posted a picture from it when he did pass, at WrestleCon that was in Dallas [in 2022] because he still wasn’t back with the company at the time.”

On the reaction to Wyatt’s WWE release in AEW: “When he got released, I think it was one of those like nobody could believe it. I think everybody across the board in every capacity ever saw that happen and could not understand why. Like that was just the most insane — there’s guys and girls that get released all the time sadly, some of them you can see with the writing on the wall, some of them you kind of question, you go ‘I don’t really get that’ or whatever. But he was one that you just went, ‘What are you thinking?’”

AEW World Heavyweight Champion Swerve Strickland recently spoke with Sports Illustrated to discuss his first impressions of MJF when the latter was working on the independent scene at the age of 18.

You can check out some highlights from the interview below:

On his first impression of MJF: “All I remember about him was his hunger. He wasn’t afraid. That’s what set him apart — he didn’t have that fear of going wherever he needed to be to get better. Max wanted to be around great competition. Even when he was young, he always put himself around top talent and he wanted to test himself in hard conditions. That’s how he got so good at such a young age.”

On MJF’s motivations to prove himself: “I don’t think Max has anything left to prove. That’s how good he is. But he’ll never tell himself that or allow himself to believe that. He’ll always keep working.”
