During a recent edition of his “What Happened When” podcast, AEW broadcaster Tony Schiavone discussed the benefits WWE enjoys from its location in the northeast.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On WWE house shows at Madison Square Garden: “You know what? Madison Square Garden was also used to running afternoon shows for the WWE back then. Because the first one that I worked was a one o’clock show at Madison Square Garden. So they did afternoon shows back then.”

On WWE’s advantage by being in the northeast: “I think everybody thought that Vince McMahon and the WWF had an advantage of being in the New York market, because it was the biggest media market in the world. And anything that you did in New York would have been bigger than anything you could have done in Greensboro, North Carolina. And I think that had a lot — I don’t know how much it had to do with it, but I think that had something to do with it, being in New York City. Because back in the day you had the Carolinas, Florida, and they had the territory that was called ‘New York.’ This was called the New York territory, the WWWF. So this was the big time, and Vince McMahon Jr made it bigger than life. And look, decades later — 40 years later — what the WWE has become: a global phenomenon. If I can, I don’t know if that’s the right term or not, but a global powerhouse in entertainment. And it all started on this day, didn’t it? This is the day it started. It’s a great story.”
