Fightful Select is reporting that NJPW icon Hiroshi Tanahashi has been spotted backstage at tonight’s AEW Double or Nothing pay-per-view. Also visiting the show are several notable names, including former AEW star “The Bad Boy” Joey Janela, powerhouse wrestling agent Barry Bloom, and former TNA standout Alex Hammerstone.
Notably absent — at least publicly — are Eddie Kingston and Darby Allin. While both are not currently at the venue, that could be by design if their appearance is being kept under wraps for a surprise later in the show.
Also backstage is Thekla, the woman rumored to be behind the mysterious spider imagery that has appeared on AEW logos in recent weeks. A local to the area, it’s unclear if her presence is simply due to proximity — or if her AEW debut is imminent.
There was a minor scheduling discrepancy with The Buy-In pre-show. Though originally promoted online with a 5:30 PM EST start time, AEW internally planned for — and ultimately delivered — a 6:30 PM kickoff.
Tonight’s Anarchy in the Arena match is expected to feature “additional production elements,” according to a source. While details remain vague, Prince Nana teased a potential spot involving Swerve Strickland’s newly released sneakers during an appearance on The Buy-In. Gabe Kidd is also expected to play a role in the chaos.
