AEW President Tony Khan has said his recent tweet referencing Vince McMahon was merely “a note to promote Rampage” and nothing more.
McMahon announced his retirement this week from his roles with WWE, a month after stepping down as CEO and Chairman due to the ongoing misconduct investigation.
In a tweet, Khan claimed that he had now become “the longest-tenured CEO in pro wrestling,” while also promoting AEW Rampage later on that night.
Speaking at the ROH Death Before Dishonor post-show media scrum, Khan said that he did not intend to take a dig at the former WWE CEO:
“I was referencing that AEW Rampage was on and just the fact that of the big major companies, who I would consider ‘The big three,’ now I am the longest tenured [CEO] of course.
“I think if you consider pro wrestling, it’s a fair statement. I just thought it’s a factual statement, a note to promote Rampage but that’s all it was. I can’t say anything else about it.”
Thanks to you wrestling fans and your great support of @AEW, I’m grateful to now be the longest-tenured CEO in pro wrestling.
Thank you very much to every single person who watches @AEWonTV!
See you for Friday Night #AEWRampage on @TNTdrama
