In an interview with The New York Post to promote her book Crazy is My Superpower, AJ “Lee” Brooks explained that in 2012, WWE took her off the road for a couple of months when she turned down a storyline. While WWE claims to tell their talent to never be afraid to turn down a storyline they are not comfortable with, this is what happens when they do. The article stated that she was set to “take part in a series of goofy skits in which her character hallucinated, kissed a leprechaun and danced with dinosaurs from outer space.”

She declined to do the idea because she and her mother suffer from bipolar II disorder. She didn’t think the segments were in good taste. She said: “It was a joke, but, to me, it wasn’t something to laugh at.”

She said this is why WWE took her off of TV. She talks quite a bit about her illness in the book and said she wants to help others who have to deal with it.

She added: “It’s hard to not think you’re alone in the world so it’s good to connect with other people who’ve faced the same issues.”

She keeps her illness under control with therapy, meditation and medicine.
