In 2017, AJ Styles battled “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series. In many people’s opinion, Styles gave Lesnar a run for his money and showed why he belonged in the main event picture in WWE.
In an interview with Inside the Ropes, Styles spoke about his battle with The Beast and believed that Lesnar showed him a ton of respect.
“It was great. We kind of discussed how we wanted the beginning to go and then after, I threw in my two cents. He told me not to jump when he gives me a German or he’d throw me out of the ring. I said, ‘Okay.’ But yeah, I mean, I think Brock showed me a lot of respect in the match that we had, and in telling the story. It was great. I thought it was one of the better matches that I’ve had. I was very happy with it.“
The following year, Lesnar would face Bryan Danielson in what many called another classic bout at Survivor Series. The Beast recently challenged Roman Reigns for the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship at SummerSlam and is rumored to return next year for WWE’s Day 1 pay-per-view.
