Charlotte Flair retained her SmackDown Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 38 (Night One) because this was the first part of a lengthy program for the two Superstars.

Going into the match, Rousey was the heavy favorite to win the title but Flair won instead, handing the former UFC fighter her second loss ever in WWE.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that this feud was never supposed to end at WrestleMania and that WWE always had Flair booked as the victor.

Despite Flair having the upper hand in the weeks running up to WrestleMania (traditionally a sign of someone losing in the big match), WWE had never considered Rousey to win the match on April 2.

WWE has yet to confirm a rematch between the two.
