We have some additional details on “Stone Cold” Steve Austin making his in-ring return at WrestleMania 38 (Night One) against Kevin Owens.
According to Fightful, the plans were made dating back to January as Owens was first informed of the plans as soon as Austin was pitched the idea of returning to the ring for one last match.
Vince McMahon made sure the plans were kept top secret and tight-lipped, in general, up until hours before the show began. McMahon informed the producers that they would be told exactly what to do close to the day of the show. Additionally, Vince wanted to make sure the producers for the match were well-informed of what was going to happen and that Austin was 100% comfortable with doing what they had planned.
WWE officials say they would like Austin to at least make a backstage appearance tonight at WrestleMania 38 (Night Two) but those plans are up in the air at this time.
Finally, while Kevin Owens re-signed with WWE for a multi-year deal last December, a WrestleMania match and/or program with Steve Austin were not part of the negotiations.
