In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer really took the NJPW Dominion 2019 IWGP Intercontinental Championship match between Tetsuya Naito and Kota Ibushi to task.
Often seen as the biggest supporter of Japanese professional wrestling in wrestling media, Dave was not happy about the really brutal German Suplex on the apron spot. Citing that Kota has already had neck surgery, Dave said that there was no need for the spot and for the match to continue on afterward:
This has been a common opinion amongst wrestling fans who watched the match. Unfortunately, that isn’t sitting well with Kota Ibushi.
Meltzer reported in The Observer that Kota is very unhappy with how the match has been received, feeling that people have focused far too much on the German Suplex spot instead of appreciating the match as a whole especially because Ibushi is ultimately okay.
