As many of you know by now, Roman Reigns returned to WWE at the SummerSlam pay-per-view event. On SmackDown, it was confirmed that he’s now a heel and will be working alongside Paul Heyman. The plan is for Reigns to be the top heel on SmackDown while Bray Wyatt becomes the top face. According to Dave Meltzer, Reigns’ heel turn has been in the works for some time.
Reigns has been wanting to turn heel for a while now and WWE had been planning just that for when he eventually returned. As far as Heyman is concerned, he’s under a high-paying contract and wasn’t being used so it makes sense to put him with Reigns or someone else.
In other Paul Heyman news, there are some rumors that he may have had some involvement in the creative aspects of Reigns’ title win. Meltzer reports that his ‘fingerprints’ seemed to be on the match as the ring collapsing and Reigns coming in at the last minute are ideas Heyman has done in the past. While Heyman is no longer working as RAW executive director, he does still have some creative influence involving the wrestlers he works with on TV.
