Due to a back injury, Randy Orton has not been on WWE television since May.

The Usos defeated RK-Bro in a unification title match on the May 20th episode of Friday Night SmackDown. Orton was attacked by The Bloodline to be written off television following the match.

Orton was pulled off of television due to a major back injury that WWE anticipated would require surgery and force him to miss the rest of the year.

WWE did know what they wanted to do with Orton when they first decided to take him off of television with the idea that he would recover and return later in the year.

When Orton first left in May, WWE had plans, according to WrestleVotes through GiveMeSport, for him to turn on Matt Riddle right away.

Since then, a lot has occurred, including Vince McMahon’s resignation and Triple H taking over as WWE’s creative director.
