Backstage News on the Saudi Government Negotiations Over a Natalya and Alexa Bliss Match

We previously reported here on eWn that Natalya and Alexa Bliss went to Saudi Arabia with the male WWE talent (plus Renee Young for commentary). The hope was that the two would have a match at the Super ShowDown event. However, negotiations between WWE and the Saudi government broke down and the government wouldn’t approve a women’s match this time around.

According to reports, the decision went “back and forth” on the match. The company couldn’t advertise the match in case there was a snag that ultimately blocked the match in the end. Of course, that would have made WWE look bad. Dave Meltzer said,

“For whatever reason, they thought they were going to get it done, enough to fly Alexa Bliss and Natalya over there. And they flew them over there, and not only were they not allowed to wrestle, but they were not allowed to be on the show, say that they’re going to be someday able to wrestle, anything. So, yeah, that’s what happened there.”
