WWE’s Executive Chairman of the Board Vince McMahon was backstage at Monday Night RAW on March 6 in Boston, MA to visit John Cena who made his return to WWE television to initiate his WrestleMania 39 match with United States Champion Austin Theory.

It was McMahon’s first time backstage at a WWE show since retiring from the company in July 2022.

Sports Illustrated reports that several people who were backstage at the March 6 TV tapings in Boston noted that McMahon “purposefully stayed out of the way” during the three-hour-show.

While his presence was definitely substantial, McMahon ensured that people noticed he wasn’t getting actively involved with the show.

Moreover, McMahon was visibly front-and-center throughout RAW, sitting between Bruce Prichard and Paul “Triple H” Levesque in the gorilla position.

It is to be noted that McMahon did not sport a headset, and he spent most of the taping on his cell phone.

When Superstars went to Triple H for feedback regarding a match or segment, McMahon would hardly even get involved in the conversation or raise his head, not offering any input of his own. It appears that McMahon tried his best to keep his appearance as lowkey as possible.

McMahon was not backstage at RAW in Providence, Rhode Island earlier this week. It is speculated that McMahon’s appearance backstage could be a strategy by the Executive Chairman himself. His sudden return to RAW was seen more as a “chess move” than just an ordinary visit to John Cena.

The report suggests that McMahon definitely had a motive for the appearance, which could potentially be part of a long-term plan on the billionaire’s part. McMahon is expected to be backstage again at RAW ahead of WrestleMania 39 next month.
