Sonya Deville revealed during an interview last week that she almost appeared at the 2021 WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view event but creative plans changed at the last minute. As many of you know, Deville hasn’t wrestled a WWE match in over a year.

According to a report from Fightful, there have been multiple creative pitches made this year about how to bring Sonya Deville back to the ring. While she technically worked a handicap match on last week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, she hasn’t actively wrestled since losing to Mandy Rose at SummerSlam 2020.

While WWE was building to the Money in the Bank pay-per-view back in July, WWE’s graphics department had graphics made with Deville being featured in the match. Of course, that never wound up happening. It’s unknown as to why WWE decided to leave her out of the match.

Additionally, Deville’s recent feud with Naomi has been well-received backstage. Numerous producers and creative team members have “spoken highly of their work” and there has been some talk of having the two women finally face off against each other in a singles match at WWE’s Day 1 pay-per-view event, which takes place on January 1st from the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, GA. With that being said, those plans have not been finalized as of this writing.
