According to a report from ProWrestlingSheet.com, Vince McMahon is “pulling out all the stops” for WWE’s “Mixed Match Challenge” 12-week series on Facebook. The show was announced on Wednesday and will kick off on January 16th, 2018. According to the site, McMahon wants to impress Facebook’s top executives and “get the attention” of other streaming services so that WWE can “open more doors” when their TV contract with NBC Universal expires in 2019.
For those wondering, the show is not expected to have any tie-ins with the RAW and SmackDown! Live TV storylines (other than minor things like an injury).
As of now, Nia Jax and Enzo Amore are expected to be paired up and it’s also possible that other real-life couples (Jimmy Uso & Naomi) and (Lana & Rusev) will team up on the show.
Facebook will be paying WWE for the distribution rights to the show. Vince McMahon and other WWE officials want to see how the revenue pans out for this show and will then decide how to proceed.
