Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood attacked The Gunns after Austin and Colten retained the AEW World Tag Team Championships against The Acclaimed (Anthony Bowens and Max Caster), Jay Lethal & Jeff Jarrett, and Orange Cassidy & Danhausen in a four-way tag team match at AEW Revolution 2023.
FTR last appeared on the December 12th, 2022 episode of AEW Dynamite where they lost to The Gunns in tag team action.
According to a report from Pwinsider, FTR are believed to have long-term deals with AEW and their brief hiatus was just part of the storyline.
In January, Harwood announced on his podcast that their contracts were up in April 2023, noting:
“That’s my news; we’re going to be away for a little while. I’m not sure exactly how long we’ll be away. It may be all the way up until the end of our contract. I don’t know yet; contract is up in April. I’m not exactly sure on the exact date, our gimmick attorney would know that. But it will be somewhere in the beginning of April.”
