GUNTHER‘s plans for WrestleMania 39 involve defending the WWE Intercontinental Championship against the winner of a #1 Contender’s Match between Drew McIntyre and Sheamus.
Having scored simultaneous pinfalls in the 5-Way #1 Contender’s Match on the latest episode of SmackDown, McIntyre and Sheamus will be locking horns this coming Friday, with the winner earning a shot at GUNTHER’s title at WrestleMania 39.
Fightful Select is reporting that WWE had penned GUNTHER’s plans for WrestleMania 39 as early as December. GUNTHER was previously rumored to defend his title against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 39, however, those plans did not pan out.
Furthermore, by the time the Lesnar vs. GUNTHER rumor spread like wildfire, WWE had already ditched the plans for that dream matchup.
Lesnar is currently scheduled to face Omos at WrestleMania 39.
