PWInsider reports that former WWE Champion Daniel Bryan was not backstage at this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Lincoln, NE at the Pinnacle Bank Arena. Bryan had been advertised for the show locally.
The SmackDown star has not been seen on television since losing the WWE Title to Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania 35 in East Rutherford, NJ at MetLife Stadium on the WWE Network. The reason for that is due to him dealing with an unknown injury.
It was reported Bryan was to be examined by doctors following the post-WrestleMania SmackDown. Also, he is not scheduled for Monday’s blue brand live event in Huntington, West Virginia. Despite being advertised, there’s no word yet on if he will work the European tour.
It is worth noting that last year when Bryan returned, he openly spoke about not enjoying the hectic schedule on the road after WrestleMania. Perhaps part of his absence is due to him and WWE working out an agreement so he can spend more time at home? Also, with the upcoming Saudi Arabian show, Bryan would likely not want to be wrestling, as he felt strongly about not working Crown Jewel last year.
His recent run as a heel has been really entertaining to watch. Even Nikki Bella openly admitted the enjoyment she feels, seeing more of her brother-in-law’s true personality shining through the character. WWE might not have been so fond of this remark, as previous reports stated they wanted him to speak less about the environment as it was shifting towards a political issue. We’ll continue following this situation and report any and all updates.
