According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Daga could be on his way to AEW. In recent months, there has been some discussion within AEW about bringing in the current AAA Superstar. Some of you may remember that Daga previously worked for Impact Wrestling but was released in October.
For those unaware, Daga is married to Tessa Blanchard. As for whether the company brings her in as well will depend on her perceived value to AEW vs. how she’s rubbed people the wrong way in the past and whether the AEW locker-room would be open to having her on board. Blanchard was stripped of the Impact Wrestling title and then fired after she failed to send promos from Mexico where she has been living during the COVID-19 pandemic. Blanchard had a lot of backstage heat due to this and she’s been known to be hard to work with. Numerous women’s Superstars have also called her out for her bad attitude backstage. She also reportedly used a racial slur against La Rosa Negra backstage at an event in 2017. While Blanchard denies the allegations, several others have come forward and claim they were right there when Tessa used the slur.
While Blanchard hasn’t been seen in Impact since June of last year, AEW officials wanted to wait on potentially signing her due to all the negative press surrounding her. In an interview back in February, Tony Schiavone was asked if AEW would be bringing her in and he replied with the following,
“I don’t think that’s happening. At least not any time soon. I would have heard that.”
