UPDATE x 2: According to reports, there is an angle that will take place at tonight’s WWE SmackDown! Live TV tapings where they will set up the Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston match for WWE Fastlane.

Also, the official Twitter account of WrestleVotes tweeted the following:

UPDATE: While plans often change on a daily basis within WWE (and trust us when we tell you they do depending on crowd reactions, creative coming together and pitching new or better ideas, etc.), plans have apparently changed. Despite a report from Dave Mellzer saying there were no plans to do a Kofi Kingston vs. Daniel Bryan match at either the WWE Fastlane or WrestleMania 35 pay-per-view events, that is no longer the case.

Several sources, including Dave Meltzer himself, are now saying that there’s been a change of plans (not surprising, BTW) for the WWE title match at the event. The changes appear to have been made during creative meetings yesterday at the RAW TV tapings and again today at the SmackDown! Live TV tapings and Kofi Kingston is indeed the frontrunner to face Daniel Bryan for the WWE title at the upcoming WWE Fastlane pay-per-view event. The changes were made strictly based off the crowd reactions from Kofi Kingston’s performance in the gauntlet match last week on SmackDown! Live and the Elimination Chamber match at Sunday night’s PPV event. He also received a big pop when his name was merely mentioned during the opening segment of RAW last night.

As of now, it is unknown if this will cause changes to what WWE had originally planned and had set up for the WWE title and Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35. It’s more than likly going to depend on the response Kofi Kingston receives from the fans in the coming weeks.

ORIGINAL: There has been a lot of hype around Kofi Kingston in recent weeks. After his performance inside the Elimination Chamber over the weekend, coming close to a WWE Title victory, fans have begun to speculate as to whether or not Kingston will challenge Bryan for the title at WrestleMania 35.

Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio commented on the situation recently. Meltzer revealed that the new No. 1-contender for Bryan’s title will be determined on tonight’s episode of SmackDown Live. While plans could change, there’s no indication that Kingston is one of the Superstars being considered for the match at either Fastlane or WrestleMania. Instead, Superstars being considered for the match include Bray Wyatt, Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens, Kurt Angle, John Cena, Batista, and The Undertaker.

Meltzer noted Zayn is ready to return, and although Batista was not interested in going to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), he has not reached a deal with WWE as of a week ago. It was also noted that Cena is not likely, as they have other plans for him at the event. As for The Undertaker, talks of an appearance from “The Deadman” at “The Show Of Shows” began again this past weekend. We’ll keep you updated as we learn more.
