As announced during the opening segment of last night’s RAW broadcast, the WWE Cruiserweight division will be returning and will be exclusive to the RAW brand.
There have reportedly been discussions dating all the way back to 2011 about bringing the Cruiserweight division back. There have also been rumors for years now of a “cruiserweight TV show.” Of course, the WWE Network is now airing the WWE Cruiserweight Classic. There are rumors that the Cruiserweight Classic will be used to crown the new Cruiserweight Champion but those are just rumors as of this writing.
WWE has not made any official announcement on the division or plans to crown a champion, but there were reports over the weekend that the company had signed Cruiserweight Classic competitors Kota Ibushi and Gran Metalik. We hope to have more shortly.
