As seen at Saturday night’s 2022 WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view event, Dakota Kai and Bayley made their returns to the company.
For those who may not recall, Kai was released from WWE back in April during a round of budget cuts. At the time, it was said that she was one of the people Triple H was most upset about being let go. Additionally, there were “several people” within the company that were under the impression that Triple H would “make it a priority” to bring her back.
Prior to her release, Kai got several tryouts on the main roster. According to a report from Fightful, there were several writers who were confused when she wasn’t a part of the WWE Draft pools. At the time, she wasn’t told of her creative plans and there were several companies that had interest in bringing her in. There were feelers sent from AEW, but those talks didn’t go past an introduction. She had her fair share of supporters in AEW and it’s unknown why she never signed.
Bayley had been spotted training at the WWE Performance Center and Flatbacks in recent weeks. While many people believed she’d be returning soon, she was kept hidden and wasn’t seen until just minutes before she came to the ring at SummerSlam 2022.
And finally, the faction for Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Io Shirai (IYO SKY) had been pitched prior to Kai’s release, but Vince McMahon turned the idea down. Several other ideas for the faction, including Raquel Rodriguez and Kay Lee Ray being included, were also pitched but nothing ever came of it.
