As seen on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam, the finish of the Jon Moxley vs. Rey Fenix match featured a major “botch” as Moxley didn’t kick out after a move as planned.
AEW quickly went to the finish of the match, with Fenix hitting Moxley again with the same move (piledriver) and winning the AEW International title.
While most of it wasn’t shown on-camera, Moxley was checked out by doctors in the ring for a long time before sitting up and walking out under his own power.
According to a report from Pwinsider, the belief is that “Mox” may have suffered a concussion.
eWrestlingNews.com was told that Moxley was “out cold” when he was supposed to kick out of the original pinfall. The referee wasn’t aware of the injury at that point and didn’t count the pinfall. Of course, freak accidents/injuries happen in wrestling and this was an example of that. Several people backstage said there was a “spur of the moment” decision made within seconds, which is obviously tough to do on live television.
