UPDATE x 2: As previously reported here on eWrestlingNews.com, Sinclair Broadcasting and ROH are considering the possibility of taking legal action against WWE after Madison Square Garden cancelled their scheduled live event at the venue in 2019. According to sources, the company is “contemplating legal action” after a top WWE official (not Vince McMahon) called the “World’s Most Famous Arena” and told them to cancel the Ring of Honor live event immediately “or else”. Numerous people within ROH say “there’s a lot of unhappiness going around” about it.

Also, it was Madison Square Garden who approached Ring of Honor about running a live event at the venue and not the other way around. The Garden was looking for someone to run wrestling events because WWE was “not running enough shows at the arena”. They were upset that WWE has been using the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York much more than MSG in recent years.

UPDATE: We previously reported here on eWrestlingNews.com that Madison Square Garden cancelled the Ring of Honor (ROH) event that was scheduled during WrestleMania 35 weekend in 2019. One phone call from a high-ranking WWE official (not Vince McMahon) led to the venue cancelling the ROH event. ROH and Madison Square Garden had agreed to the date but the deal had not been signed at the time Ring of Honor announced it. Madison Square Garden had been contacting wrestling promotions about holding shows at the venue because WWE, their long-standing partner, had been using the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY instead. The Garden actually approached Ring of Honor and not the other way around.

With that being said, the Mexican AAA promotion was scheduled to run events at Madison Square Garden as well, starting in September. Once again, MSG reached out to them due to their issues with WWE running their live events in Brooklyn as of late. AAA still has two holds on MSG, including September 16th and a back-up date as AAA wants to also hold a Las Vegas event on September 16th. The second date was said to be September 23rd but is now later in the fall.

According to sources, AAA is working out the details on running the events but are considering pushing back to early 2019 so they don’t waste time, money and effort on a rushed event.

For what it’s worth, Sinclair Broadcasting, which owns ROH, is pursuing legal options and are said to be “extremely upset” with the move.
