There was a ton of controversy surrounding the removal of James Gunn from the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3‘ film for some past Tweets that resurfaced. WWE star and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 3‘ star Dave Bautista was a big supporter of Gunn throughout the ordeal, and threatened to leave the franchise if Gunn’s script wasn’t used for the film.
However, Gunn was recently reinstated by Disney and Marvel for the film, and Bautista is happy with the decision. Speaking to Variety on the matter, “The Animal” answered questions about “working hard” to get Gunn back, and his threat to leave the franchise if Gunn’s scripts wasn’t used.
Here are the highlights:
“Working hard” to get Gunn back: “I don’t think – I didn’t really work hard, and I don’t think I’ve ever said that I worked hard, I just spoke my mind. I was just honest in the way I felt about it. I thought he was given a raw deal, I thought it was a bad call – bad decision. I thought the empowering of some really horrible people was made and I made my opinion publicly known.”
Threatening to leave the franchise if Gunn’s script wasn’t used:“No, I had a big issue, and I also made that aware. It was a thing where I’m contractually obligated to, so I could have, but I think that Marvel and Disney – if I really stood my ground and said ‘I don’t want to do this without James,’ I think that they are decent enough that they would’ve left me out of my contract.
“But I just didn’t want to. I wanted to bring it home. These guys are like family to me, and I wanted to be involved in the third one and I wanted to use James’ script because it’s a beautiful script. But it’s just, yeah moving forward without James was a real personal issue with me.”
