Max Dupri’s days being involved in the Maximum Male Models storyline appear to be over.

According to a report from Fightful, Dupri was removed from the angle at the last minute. Those involved in working and producing the storyline weren’t given any solid information as to why this was being done.

The storyline for the group was said to have come directly from Vince McMahon and it was “all his idea.” For the debut segment that took place several weeks ago, McMahon actually came to the ring during rehearsals to produce the segment himself. Usually, that sort of thing is reserved for the producers who are in charge of their particular matches and segments. Vince McMahon is very rarely seen at the rehearsals. One source said McMahon had a “distinct vision” for how he wanted Max Dupri to sound and be portrayed. Vince was completely against the idea of the character sounding anything like what LA Knight sounded like during his time in WWE NXT 2.0.

While Mace and Mansoor were on board with the storyline, Dupri wasn’t high on the gimmick and had some reservations. That reportedly rubbed some people the wrong way, as they felt he should have been grateful for the opportunity given the fact that he was just called up to the main roster.

Additionally, one source said Dupri often challenged the scripts the writers were coming up with. Another person said Vince McMahon’s retirement was probably the best thing that could have happened to him.

While Dupri has rubbed several people the wrong way early on in his main roster call-up, he does have his fair share of supporters in WWE who like his work and would likely go to bat for him if it came to that.

Finally, the beachwear segment that was being advertised for last night’s episode of WWE SmackDown has been bumped to next week’s show.
