On the October 21, 1996 edition of WCW Nitro, Sting emerged wearing a trench coat and white face paint with black marks around his eyes. Shortly after, a silent, almost ghostly Sting, carrying a baseball bat, began appearing in the rafters at WCW events as he painted his entire face with black and white corpse paint. This was the dawn of Sting’s legendary “Crow” gimmick inspired by the 1994 movie The Crow.

While speaking to These Urban Times, Big E revealed Sting’s “Crow” persona as his favorite wrestling gimmick. He said,

“My favorite gimmick? That’s a very good question. It might be Sting. Sting has a great gimmick, and he’s still doing it. How? I was a little kid and he’s still doing it. He’s going to outlast me. Sting, especially in WCW, the Crow gimmick, he used to come down from the rafters with the bat. That was cold. Sting was cold.”

Sting still maintains aspects of his Crow gimmick to date, with different designs for the face paint.
