Braun Strowman discussed Vince McMahon’s decision not to put the WWE title on him in 2019 during a recent interview on Chasing Glory with Lillian Garcia

Here is what he had to say:

Braun Strowman on wanting to win the WWE title in 2019 and Vince McMahon’s decision not to put the title on him: “It was one of those hard pills to swallow. I’m excessive. I don’t do anything in moderation, it’s all or nothing. When I put my mind to something, it’s the same with me changing my body……at the same time, look at what he’s done with this business and this industry and where he’s taken it. So, I have to in my mind, he knows what’s best. I know he knows what’s best. He knows what’s best for his company, which he has his life invested into, and then he knows what’s best for my character because he’s invested in it and he’s helped build the Monster Among Men. It’s one of those things where you’ve gotta eat humble pie and take a step back and trust the process. As much as the stubborn, alpha, toxic masculinity male or whatever I am wanted to be like ‘No, you don’t know what you’re talking about’ and it’s one of those things where you take a step back and realize the big picture and what and where and how everything is gonna happened. And the whole thing of like, it just wasn’t time. A lot of my fans – ‘Why aren’t you champ, why aren’t you this, and why aren’t you that?’ At the end of the day, why rush it? I’m not going anywhere.”

On telling Vince that he’s going to retire with WWE: “I’ve said it time and time again, the day I take my wrestling boots off for WWE is the day I stop wrestling. I will not wrestle for anyone else. I’ve been given an opportunity from Vince McMahon and from WWE in life that I would’ve never gotten. I told him a long time ago that the day I take my boots off for you, I’m done, and I mean that.”

On defeating Goldberg for the Universal title at WrestleMania 36: “It was nuts. Bill Goldberg – a guy when I was younger that I idolized. I can remember spearing my buddies off the dock into the lake and jackhammering – even though you’re not supposed to do the moves at home – doing all the stuff in swimming pools and all that. Bill and I have kindled quite a good relationship over the years with me being here and him coming back. We’re meatheads, we both like going to the gym and stacking plates and banging weights. And he’s a car guy too, so we have a lot in common. We talk cars and everything. It was really neat – becoming friends with a guy I idolized as a teenager to now sharing the squared circle with him and beating him for the Universal Championship. It’s still kind of like I’m waiting for somebody to wake me up.”
