Following the news that Warner Bros and Discovery had merged, the implications may be felt as far away as across the pond, and even the niche corner of pro wrestling hasn’t been immune. The current deal with WBD is that AEW will air on TNT and TBS in the United States. Our friends in the UK might not be so lucky. Due to WWE’s contract with BT Sport, it seems unlikely that the UK channel will be able to carry AEW programming in the future.

In most, and possibly all, of WWE’s TV contracts, the company includes a stipulation that the station is not allowed to broadcast any other wrestling promotion on their network. A source involved in the negotiations of these kinds of deals confirmed to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE insists on that stipulation when signing new TV contracts. What this means for AEW programming in the UK remains to be seen, but we’ll continue to track the story as it develops.
