Could the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match at SummerSlam end with one of wrestling’s most controversial finishes?
During last week’s episode of WWE SmackDown, Jey Uso challenged his cousin Roman Reigns to a title match for next month’s event, though the match hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Speaking on a recent edition of “Busted Open Radio,” Bully Ray suggested that a ‘Dusty Finish’ could be in order in the closing moments of the match. He said,
“If there was ever a time for a ‘Dusty finish’ in the WWE, it would be at SummerSlam. Imagine a ‘Dusty finish’ at SummerSlam in which we are meant … to know that Jey Uso just won the match. … Oh my God. And WWE is not big on the Dusty finish at all, but holy cow — if this wasn’t just the right place for it.”
Named after Dusty Rhodes, the ‘Dusty Finish’ sees a face wrestler seemingly win a big match, usually for a title, only to have the result reversed and the heel win.
While not originated by the American Dream, the finish was used so regularly during Rhodes’ time as a booker that it earned the ‘Dusty Finish’ moniker.
WWE SummerSlam 2023 will take place on August 5, from Detroit, Michigan.
