WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray has said that the promotion is planning on Roman Reigns being the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion for a long time to come.

Reigns captured the Universal Championship in August 2020 and unified the title with the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 38.

On Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray suggested that WWE plans on Reigns breaking one of the records for the longest-reigning World Champion:

“I think he’s fourth on the list [of longest-reigning world champions] right now. I know it’s Bruno, Backlund, Hulk, Bruno again, and then Roman. That’s some great company to be in. I think they’re going to make an effort to get Roman to break one of those records and get him as high up there on the list as possible.”

Reigns has the sixth-longest reign as champion, behind Pedro Morales (1,027 days) Sammartino (1,237 days), Hulk Hogan (1,474 days), Bob Backlund (2,135 days) and Sammartino again (2,803 days.)

For Reigns to surpass Morales, he will need to hold the title until June 23, 2023.

To have the longest reign ever, surpassing Sammartino, Reigns will need to be champion until May 3, 2028.
