Former AEW World Champion Chris Jericho has said that fellow Inner Circle alum Jake Hager once saved his life.
During an April 2021 episode of AEW Dynamite, Jericho alluded to Hager saving his life, saying during a promo:
“This man had my back when I was threatened with assassination in Abu Dhabi in 2012.”
On the latest episode of his “Talk is Jericho” podcast, which featured the Jericho Appreciation Society, Jericho elaborated on his point, saying:
“There’s this guy who’s being an a**hole” Jericho said. “He’s yelling and screaming.”
Hager agreed that the man was “getting a little touchy” and “grabbing people.”
Jericho said that when he confronted the man, giving him a ‘hip check’ the then-Superstars were confronted outside the bar later that night.
“He goes ‘My dad owns 27% of this company. And I’m putting a bounty on your head. In the next 24 hours, you are going to be killed and I’m gonna pay them $7 million.’”
“I remember Jake going, ‘Don’t do it man. This is the wild west. They will kill you here. They’ll f*cking string you up, they’ll hang you.’ The only reason I didn’t take a wild swing with my stupid key was because Jake told me not to … If had not told me not to fight this guy, I would have [fought] him, and who knows what would have happened, so therefore, in pro wrestling logic, Jake Hager saved my life!”
WWE had three Abu Dhabi events in 2012 which match up with Jericho’s timeline.
At the time, Jericho would have been feuding with then-WWE Champion CM Punk, while Hager (then Jack Swagger) would have been the WWE United States Champion.
