AEW Superstar Chris Jericho took to Twitter on Thursday, reacting to the AEW vs. NXT ratings. Jericho posted a screenshot of the ratings for Fyter Fest and the Great American Bash night one. He noted that AEW once again won in the key demo rating and said, “To tv networks & advertisers it’s the ONLY number that matters.”
For what it’s worth, Jericho is right here as the 18-49 demographic is the main demo that top networks and advertisers look at when determining how well a show is doing. AEW drew a big 0.29 demo rating, while NXT drew a solid 0.22 demo rating.
The networks see it as the shows are not in competition with shows on another network and are only in competition with their own network. So while the overall viewership numbers between AEW and NXT get wrestling fans talking the most, the networks are looking at the key demographic ratings more than they are the actual viewership. Of course, the advertisers are what bring in money for the networks so the demographic ratings are key to them. The overall viewership always comes second.
