Claudio Castagnoli – ‘Bryan Danielson Deserves To End His Career On His Terms’

On a recent edition of the “107.7 The Bone” podcast, ROH World Champion Claudio Castagnoli discussed his friendship with Bryan Danielson and why The American Dragon deserves to end his career on his terms.

Castagnoli will take on NJPW Strong Openweight Champion Eddie Kingston in a Winner Takes All match tonight at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam.

You can check out some highlights from the podcast below:

On his relationship with Bryan Danielson: “I’m close with Bryan. We talk a lot, just about wrestling, but life in general. Bryan had an absolute Miracle career. As you know, people counted him out so many times, and he came back from things that normal people probably wouldn’t.”

On Danielson deserving to end his career on his terms: “So, for him to call it on his own terms and end his career whenever he wants to, I think that’s very important to him, and he deserves that. So, whenever he decides that enough is enough, he will do so, but I also think you have to very much pay attention to how he worded it.”

Castagnoli also discussed his high-stakes match against Kingston in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

You can check out some highlights from the interview below:

On facing Claudio Castagonli in New York City: “You’re going to beat me in New York, you’re going to have to kill me. Claudio is going to have to put me down for a lot longer than three seconds.”

On the importance of Ring of Honor: “If Ring of Honor never took off in the early 2000s, there would probably never be AEW. Ring of Honor wanted to be different. A lot of AEW guys wrestled for Ring of Honor, too. My mentor, Homicide, was the world champion. Xavier was the world champ. Low Ki was the first-ever champ. Those are all New Yorkers. The belt belongs with a New Yorker.”

On his promise for tonight’s match: “New York is home, and I’m always going to protect my home. I’ll make the only promises I can make. If you miss this, you’re going to regret it. And I promise that I’m going to fight until the end.”
