Ring of Honor World Champion Claudio Castagnoli has said that it’s a good thing he never won the WWE or Universal Championships during his years with the promotion.
Castagnoli captured the ROH World Title at the recent Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view event, marking his first World Championship reign in wrestling.
Prior to ROH, Castagnoli worked as Cesaro in WWE, and despite the hopes of fans for years, never won ‘the big one.’
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, Claudio said he was was thankful for never winning a WWE World Title.
“If I would have won the title, right, that would have been the end of it kind of, you know what I mean? It would have been like, ‘Hey, he won the title, he’s good now, that’s it,’ and then you have to kind of find what’s next.
“Everybody’s always looking for that destination, but it is the journey, right? It is the middle of it that’s so awesome, that’s so important. That’s where you make all your friends, that’s where you make all your memories, and people forget that.”
Castagnoli left WWE in February this year and has since signed with AEW/ROH, appearing for both promotions.
