CM Punk made his AEW Dynamite debut on Wednesday night as he was interviewed by Tony Schiavone. Punk was asked by Schiavone why he made his return to pro wrestling after a 7 year absence. Punk said he came back to work with some of the best young talent in the world, such as Jungle Boy, The Lucha Bros., Brian Pillman Jr., and most notably, Darby Allin.
Punk went on to put over Darby, who he will be facing at AEW’s All Out pay-per-view event on September 5th. Punk said Darby is the one wrestler who doesn’t fit the mold of “what a wrestler should be”, but has so much heart and is reckless inside the squared circle and he loves that. Punk went on to say that he looks at Darby as a guy he would’ve looked up to at the age of 15 and said he was his favorite wrestler.
After a thunderous “YES!” chant from the fans in Milwaukee, WI, Punk quickly replied that the catchphrase is someone else’s gimmick, but to be patient for “him” and he’d likely be coming soon. Obviously, that was a direct reference to Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan in WWE), who is heavily rumored to be debuting for AEW on September 22nd at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in New York City.
