CM Punk has filed a countersuit against his former friend Colt Cabana. PWInsider reports that the countersuit was filed on June 18. Punk is reportedly seeking $600,000 for general damages in addition to interest and legal fees. This is in response to an amended lawsuit filed by Cabana in August of 2018.
Back in 2015 both Punk and Cabana were sued by WWE Doctor Chris Amann. This came after Punk made some disparaging comments bout Amann on Cabana’s podcast shortly after his WWE departure. The jury eventually ruled in favor of Punk and Cabana, and Amann was not paid anything.
Cabana later sued Punk this past August for breach of contract and fraud over legal fees related to the Amann lawsuit. Punk apparently promised to pay for Cabana’s legal fees, however, Punk’s legal team instead dropped him as a client. After their falling out, Cabana obtained his own legal representation and is now seeking $200,000 for his personal legal costs and additional damages.
Punk claimed that he spent $1.2 million in legal fees between himself and Cabana for the lawsuit with Amann and was not reimbursed. Punk claims it “violated fundamental principles of justice, equality, and good conscience” in addition to breaching their contract. He added that the podcast with Cabana was very popular, and he did not receive compensation for it. Cabana has until July 3 to respond to Punk’s countersuit.
