A new report from Fightful has revealed that current AEW TNT Champion Cody Rhodes is a free agent.
The report notes that Rhodes’ contract actually expired at the end of 2021. With that being said, the TNT Champion has been working all his dates in AEW without a contract ever since that expiration.
Sources Fightful spoke with regarding Rhodes stated that some have known about this over the past several weeks. They also reached out to Cody Rhodes for a comment on the situation, but had not heard back.
Despite currently working without a contract, Rhodes spoke with Sports Illustrated back in December of last year. During that interview, Cody said,
“As of now, my future is with AEW. AEW would be very strange without the core members of the revolution. We all still talk. We all have this admiration for each other. I can’t see myself anywhere else, and I’m very optimistic about what the future holds.”
Finally, it was noted that some of the originally reported contract lengths in AEW have differed from what they actually were.
Cody Rhodes is currently in his second reign as TNT Champion, having defeated Sammy Guevara at AEW’s Holiday Bash themed episode of Rampage. Guevara has since defeated Dustin Rhodes to become the interim TNT Champion.
