It was reported last week that AEW EVPs have lost creative power, and AEW President Tony Khan has completely taken over that role. That same report noted that Kenny Omega, The Young Bucks and Cody Rhodes were “EVPs in name only in 2021.”
However, Dave Meltzer reported on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that the roles of the higher-ups in AEW have remained unchanged since December of 2019. While Khan took more control of the booking since then, no one in the promotion has lost creative power.
Khan remains in charge of booking the matches and segments and tells talent what they’re doing, but top talent including the Executives still have input in their angles and matches. They also come up with what they say in their promos.
