Rizin Fighting Federation CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara is teasing a possible boxing match between retired pugilist Manny Pacquiao and former NJPW competitor Kota Ibushi.
In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote the following:
“Sakakibara noted how big business was when wrestlers did real fights in Pride and right now no pro wrestlers are doing them. He said they could negotiate the rules so it didn’t have to be a boxing match and Sakakibara even teased the idea of doing a pro wrestling match. He pushed the idea that in the past the fighting fan base and wrestling fan base had a big crossover, but that isn’t the case, and tried to push the idea Ibushi could bring fight fans back to being pro wrestling fans and expand the audience. It’s been reported that talks between the sides are in very preliminary stages.”
