Due to some last-minute creative reshuffling, the tribute to Jay Briscoe on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite went off well.

As we previously reported here on eWn, Warner Bros. Discovery was initially reluctant to allow the tribute show, as well as Mark Briscoe’s appearance. That changed thanks to the persistence of AEW President Tony Khan.

Fightful is reporting that Ian Riccaboni was booked for the TV tapings on Tuesday and flew in just hours before the show went live.

Two segments were trimmed in order to make time for the Mark Briscoe vs. Jay Lethal main event: the TNT Title match between Darby Allin and Buddy Matthews, and the Gunns/Acclaimed therapy session. One backstage source indicated that they were impressed by giving Lethal & Briscoe as much time as they needed, and still delivering everything else that had been advertised for the show.

The show was said to have been well-received backstage. FTR were scheduled to be backstage, but not to appear, and they were at the arena. Dalton Castle was also present, and sat front row to cheer on Mark. Kenny Omega has been battling visa issues and was unable to make the event.

Last night’s episode of Dynamite drew AEW’s highest audience since October 5, 2022.
