Sasha Banks (the real-life Mercedes Varnado) has been one of the hottest conversation topics in wrestling circles lately. Her future has been the subject of much speculation. A new report courtesy of Fightful Select gives some clarity on details surrounding The Boss.
It was confirmed that Banks’ WWE exit was negotiated “months ago,” likely when Raj Giri of Wrestling Inc. reported as much. However, WWE has yet to officially confirm this, and she remains listed on the company’s official website.
It was also reiterated to Fightful that Sasha was able to take wrestling-related bookings as of January 1st, something that Fightful Select reported this past fall. The report goes on to state that when asked if Banks’ situation with wrestling bookings was “contractual,” Fightful were told that it was. It was also noted that WrestleCade was far from the only wrestling-related operation to make attempts to book her. Those close to Banks stated that other conventions were interested. Conventions went to great lengths to be able to book her before January 1st, but it couldn’t happen.
The report goes on to state that Banks’ New Japan Pro Wrestling deal is a go, and was agreed upon as far back as the last week of November. Those familiar with that deal said that they haven’t heard of anything regarding All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Banks yet, but also stated that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.
