Dolph Ziggler has revealed that WWE’s original plan for his 2013 Money in the Bank cash-in was much different than what fans would eventually see on TV.

After winning the SmackDown MITB contract in July 2012, Ziggler cashed in on a prone Alberto Del Rio (then World Heavyweight Champion) on the Raw after WrestleMania 29 in 2013.

The moment, which saw a brief back and forth between the two is considered by many to be one of the best MITB contract cash-ins and one of Ziggler’s biggest moments.

Speaking on Corey Graves’ After The Bell podcast, Ziggler discussed the initial idea that he was given before the show:

“Originally that was supposed to be… I hit Del Rio with the briefcase five times and pin him,” said Ziggler. “I go, ‘Please, guys, I lose every night, and since I got this briefcase I’ve lost twice a night! Let me take them on a two-minute rollercoaster ride and have it all make sense.’”

Ziggler’s title reign would be short-lived as he would suffer a concussion early in to his reign, and would lose the title to Del Rio 70 days after his win. Now NXT Champion, Ziggler will defend against Bron Breakker at NXT Stand and Deliver next week.
