Drew McIntyre’s current heel persona has been heavily inspired by two-time WWE Hall of Famer Bret ‘Hitman’ Hart, it has been claimed.

In recent weeks, McIntyre has shown more of an edge and has refused to help faces fight off heels, saying he is tired of other people relying on him to help with their problems.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it is reported that Hart’s heel turn in 1997 has helped inspire McIntyre’s new demeanor. The report states,

“If you watch the McIntyre turn as a heel who is logically right but people don’t like it because of that and think Bret Hart 1997 in the U.S., it’s because that is part of the inspiration of the character.”

Hart’s 1997 heel turn saw the Hitman complain about the fans turning on him and supporting his nemesis, the popular ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin.

This heel turn turned into the Canada vs. USA feud in which Hart argued that the morals and attitudes of the U.S. were lacking compared to those of the Great White North.

McIntyre will challenge WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins at WWE Crown Jewel on November 4.
