AEW’s Eddie Kingston has said that his match with Cody Rhodes upon joining the company meant “nothing” to him at the time.

Kingston debuted for AEW in July 2020, facing Rhodes in a No Disqualification match for the TNT Championship, which Cody held at the time.

When asked by Fightful about the match, Kingston admitted it meant nothing as he had mentally checked out of wrestling:

“Nothing, I was expecting at that point of time that was just a payday because I was broke,” said Kingston. “It was legit the pair of boots I had, I bought two days ago. Two days before the match on amazon because I sold my boots to pay for the mortgage, and I sold a lot of my gear.”

Kingston would impress fans with his performance, ultimately earning a contract with the company.

Kingston has recently been teaming with Santana and Ortiz to feud with the Jericho Appreciation Society.
