According to a report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Edge was supposed to face Finn Balor in a Hell in a Cell Match at last week’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view event. It was also reportedly discussed that Edge would compete in a more sinister avatar, a throwback to his days in ‘The Brood.’ Meanwhile, Balor was set to compete under his “Demon” persona.
However, these plans could not come to fruition due to Edge’s prior commitments. During his absence from WWE over the past few months, Edge had been filming for Percy Jackson and The Olympians where he will play Ares, the Greek God of War.
Dave Meltzer wrote, “The reason the at-one-time-talked-about Brood Edge vs. Demon Balor Hell in a Cell match at the Rumble didn’t happen is because Edge was filming a television show until this past week and thus couldn’t do the WWE television to build up the match. He was filming “Percy Jackson and The Olympians,” a Disney + series where he will play Ares, the Greek God of War.”
