According to a report by CableFax, the “El Rey Network”, the station that brought you Lucha Underground will be ceasing operations by December 31st.

The El Rey Network aired a host of content both new and acquired during its seven years on the air such as From Dusk till Dawn: The Series, Matador, Texas Justice, El Rey Nation, and more, but for wrestling fans it was best known as the home of Lucha Underground which operated for three seasons.

Back in November, the announcement had been made that Univision (the company who owns El Rey) would be looking to sell the network altogether. This past year, El Rey was dropped by AT&T and also Charter Communications in September. With that, the network could only be seen by 13 million homes. This may seem like a lot, but not enough to do business with financially.

Company president Robert Rodriguez still remains optimistic the channel may move on to do streaming capacities instead, stating that that he was “confident that with this strong foundation we will continue to successfully serve one of the most important and influential audiences.”
